Web Tools 4 Educators - First semester 2009

Final Project

Team Members: Flávia Borges, Sílvia Caldas and Wanda Gomide

Level:  Thomas Flex 6

Time Frame: 75min class

Overview of Lesson Plan:

The book is American Headway 1, unit 7. The past (the early part of the 20th century) and more recent past (the 1990s) are the themes of this unit. Within these contexts, both regular and irregular forms of the Past Simple are presented. For this lesson (Talking about you, p. 50), Ss are going to follow the steps described in the procedures below.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this class, Ss will be able to use the Simple Past to talk about some of their childhood memories.

Technological Resources/ materials:

Blogger: http://silviathomasflex6.blogspot.com/

Quia: http://www.quia.com/quiz/1872792.html

Voice thread: http://voicethread.com/#u420189.b561656.i3001138

Procedures (tasks):

1. In the computer lab, Ss will access their class blog (http://silviathomasflex6.blogspot.com/) and follow the instructions in the first post. They'll watch a video on childhood memories and then, discuss the questions suggested in the post with a partner.

2. Ss will access the IMPORTANT LINKS area in the blog and do the quia activity there (http://www.quia.com/quiz/1872792.html). This activity brings together the past of BE, TO BE BORN, and DID in Past Simple questions, so that Ss become aware of the difference between the past of the verb TO BE and full verbs.

3. Ss will follow the instructions in the second post and talk about their childhood memories with a partner. Next, they're supposed to leave a comment to the post, a paragraph on the topic discussed. They'll use the questions to guide them through the talking and writing part.

4. Finally, after having talked and written about their childhood memories, Ss will have the chance to record their paragraph on Voice Thread (http://voicethread.com/#u420189.b561656.i3001138).

Assessment:

This lesson will offer Ss the opportunity to practice the four skills in a sequenced and gradual form. They'll talk about a theme that is familiar to them using the grammar topic in a structured way. Also, Ss will be able to prepare extensively before recording their memories in the Voice thread. Finally, they'll have the chance to listen to their peers and to themselves, which can be a great tool for learning improvement.
